The Shangri-la Hong Kong isn’t exactly new, in fact it opened way back in 1991, well before I knew what a Shangri-la was. Back then, it was one of Hong Kong’s most exciting and cutting edge hotels and while the world and the city of Hong Kong has moved on considerably this property still remains an ode to classic opulence and class.
For those that may not be familiar with the Hotel Jen concept,it’s actually the 4 star creative cousin of the Shangri-la. It’s mission is to cater to a new generation of independent travelers and this property on top of the Orchard Gateway shopping centre on Orchard Road was the first of this series of lifestyle hotels for the group.
Dubai’s hospitality scene might be known for a lot of things but small scale design hotels is probably not one of them. Enter the Form Hotel. Located in Al Jadaf, Form eschews the style of your typical cookie-cutter luxury properties that have become somewhat synonymous with the Dubai to deliver an original and fresh approach that is set to appeal to a new generation of traveler.
This bustling 4 Star lifestyle hotel offers contemporary styled accommodation and is pretty good launch pad to explore Barsha Heights, a district which is really starting to get it’s food game on. Nestled in a back pocket of the district that I still like to call Tecom, you will almost certainly encounter a round about or two getting there…

I’ve been a bit of fan of Hotel Jen for a while now, so when it was time to get over to Hong Kong for a short stay, I thought it would probably be a pretty cool spot on the Island to camp out at. For those that may not be familiar with Jen, it’s the 4 star creative cousin of the Shangri-la group.
After a week of chaos and fun in Saigon, um - Ho Chi Min City, it was a great relief to take some well earned time out and slow the pace down a little in historic Hoi An, which is a 45 minute cab ride from Da Nang Airport. From there it was off to the secluded countryside of Cam Thanh where a wonderful little 5 room retreat that goes by the name of Villa Hoa Su - Frangipani Village Resort is located.
