Going on a TRYP to Barsha
This bustling 4 Star lifestyle hotel offers contemporary styled accommodation and is pretty good launch pad to explore Barsha Heights, a district which is really starting to get it’s food game on. Nestled in a back pocket of the district that I still like to call Tecom, you will almost certainly encounter a round about or two getting there, so it’s probably a good idea to tap into your GPS to smooth the journey out a little.
Upon arrival, the check in is simple and efficient, after which it’s really a case of decamping and exploring the property which has quite a bit packed into it, from restaurants to co-working spaces.
TRYP King Room
TRYP has a range of room types to suite your needs, all of which offer pretty good value of money. For this trip we opted for the King Room which came in at around 350 Dirhams ++ and offered a reasonable amount of space.
The rooms‘ styling is mostly white which is punctuated by striking tones of black and yellow with some wall art - in this instance a stencil styled map of the region. While this isn’t exactly original, its a fair attempt and overall the contemporary style is light and welcoming.
From a functionality perspective it’s got all the basics like a tv and desk which you probably wont use that much and with the obligatory kettle and instant coffee too. As for the bathroom, it’s small, white and comes with some basic toiletries. The shower is combined into the bath tub which has a really large sweeping curve to its base, which sets you quite far back from the shower head and controls which was kinda weird.
The king size bed is plenty soft, so too the pillows and the sound proofing form the busy outsides seemed fairly much perfect, which is by no means the case in many an apartment and hotel across the city. There’s the obligatory kettle and instant coffee too.
Dining
The food offering is the big draw card here at this property and they have done well with three pretty compelling outlets - the clear star being the highly rated Barbary.
BarBary has a lot going for it. The staff are engaging and on point, the food excellent and the soundtrack of Funk, Soul & Boogie infectious. It’s an eclectic fusion of music, refined club culture and elevated pub grub that appeals to the Rémy Martin crowd but with an ever so slight grungy edge. It’s not for everyone and it’s not meant to be for everyone but once you get it - you got it. Definitely worth a visit.
Complimenting this, is the outdoor - poolside LIQDDXB which serves up a range of BBQ cuts made to order and is a nice little place to kick back and relax with a beverage as the DJ plays his tunes.
All day dining is taken care of the LOCAL which is a large space located on the ground floor. At night is hosts a variety of theme nights and by day it does breakfast for the masses. It’s a nicely presented space with a range of seating arrangements as well as a small bar. In the mornings this place is absolutely frenetic to the point where they may want to change the name to loco because it’s jam packed and crushingly busy. In these conditions expect long lines at all the food stations and the service to be rushed. The breakfast is everything you would expect at this price point covering all the basics without anything being particularly memorable other than the volume of people!
TRYP by Wyndham is also home to the NEST, an urban co-working space in Dubai that fuses creativity, technology and hospitality in a pretty cool way, offering a range of spaces for keyboard warriors to do their thing.
Bottom Line:
Overall TRYP is an extremely busy place with it’s 650 rooms seemingly at full capacity on the weekends and with the facilities on offer and the price point it’s not hard to see why. This is hotel that is perfectly suited to the budget conscious leisure or business traveler who’s happy to rub shoulders with the crowd and get amongst it.
