A Wabi Sabi Lunch

A Wabi Sabi Lunch

Calling out to all vegan food lovers, over at Al Quoz Pond Park there’s great spot now named Wabi Sabi.

This locale has had a variety of different establishments over the years, this one however seems to be the most compelling thus far. The WabiSabi Restaurant comes bearing a mouth-watering menu and a mission, to offer a casual high end dining experience for people seeking holistic lifestyle food.

It’s an interesting play that combines a well thought out space with a healthy driven - junk food style menu and a retail clothes store named The Closet. This is where you’ll find some high end wearables, souvenirs and other items of desire to enrich your life. It’s certainly an elegant space.

Wabi Sabi is a deeply held philosophy that is closely tied Japanese culture. The term refers to finding beauty within every aspect of imperfection in nature, with an appreciate for simplicity and the acceptance of change.

The original WabiSabi actually comes from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and began in 2019 as the countries first Vegan Restaurant. Their approach is to dish up hearty and casual inventive cuisine, outstanding cocktails and inclusive culture. Vegan enough to live up to lofty vegan standards for vegan guests, and alluring enough to pull in the curiosity of even non-vegans.

We knew none of this and stumbled upon this new iteration of the spot while out looking for lunch.

The menu is extensive and has some extremely interesting items on it like unique pizza, pasta, burger and salad combinations. We opted to try the Feta & Apple Panini Sandwich (AED 45), along with the Kubbah Bil Laban, which was a delightful kibbeh dish made from fine bulgur wheat and potatoes which sit on a bed of cauliflower rice and are then garnished with a creamy lemon yogurt. It was excellent.

As for the Apple Panini, we loved it. The sharpness and crunch from the apple when combined with the beetroot hummus and the feta was unlike any other ‘sandwich’ we’ve had before. To finish we had some gluten free pancakes. Yep pancakes for lunch, we didn’t really have breakfast so let’s just call this brunch, but not in the Dubai sense.

Bottom Line:

In all, WabiSabi is a truly novel place to explore and the fact that you can sit outside a soak up the great weather with some equally great food really ticks all the boxes for us.
