High Times in Motor City

High Times in Motor City

The High Joint has become a cult classic in Dubai for all burger lovers. We loved the simple approach of their first outlet in Al Manara when we first discovered it way back when.

Fast forward a few years and aside from opening multiple outlets from Abu Dhabi to Expo to Al Khawaneej, this local, quality driven success story is set to open yet another joint - this time in Motor City on Detroit Street in the newly established Neighborhood Food Hall.

With that in mind they’ve lunched a brand new menu exclusive to this outlet that pays homage to the destination. Featuring a range of burgers and platters that are a mix of classic American BBQ and Asian flavors.

First up and the High & Sticky Burger (AED 62) is a really amazing way to kick things off. With slow cooked tender short ribs and the sweet and sticky Asian glaze the meat is melt in the mouth kinda stuff. To get a little crunch there’s also some tempura onion rings with the Asian flavors accentuated by the ginger mayo. All of this in a beautifully soft potato bun. It’s our favorite of the evening and something you need to be a part of.

Double Ribs High (AED 62) with it’s 3 hour smoked BBQ sauce is also a good one - again the ribs just falling apart in the mouth.

Switching gears and we turn our attention to the two feature platters that have just arrived to our table. The first is the High & Sticky Platter (AED 99) and the other being the Double Ribs Platter also 99 Dirhams. Both come with some amazing side sauces which are excellent with the house made bbq sauce having the edge over the Asian bbq glaze. So despite the High & Sticky Burger being our favorite between the buns, the tables seemed to have been turned with the platters and the mesquite smoked double ribs are simply sensational. They’re soft, smokey, and irresistibly tasty. It’s pull apart goodness that’s up there with any smokehouse. What else could you ask for? How about some padron peppers, and side of dill and cabbage slaw! Awesome.

As if this wasn’t enough, we delved into the Truffle Bacon Mac & Cheese (AED 22), which is a heavy weight item full of flavor and the unmistakable note of truffle elevating it to being not your ordinary version of this classic American comfort food.

Now this is where things get interesting. We’ve had a lot of burgers, far too many actually, but we’ve not tried a combination quite like this. Enter the Taikan High Burger (AED 48). This is our left field hit of the night.

It’s quite an unexpected combination of a beautiful tender ground beef pattie that’s stuffed pepper jack cheese with lashings of golden katsu sauce and sharp wasabi mayo on top. To be honest at face value it’s not something that I would think to order but after one bite we were addicted. There’s something just so umptious about it that despite being totally wedged, we had to just keep going. While I would love to see some of their amazing Wakame Slaw (AED 14) on top to give a little more cut through - it’s still one interesting burger that you should try.

Having stuffed ourselves silly with some truly impressive burgers and ribs, we find room for one more indulgence and that came in the form of the Smoking Butter Soft Serve (AED 17), which is a seriously impressive ice cream featuring real maple syrup and freshly ground cinnamon. It’s a winning combination with the burnt butter and acts as a perfect item to tie the menu together and an even better way of closing out the visit.

Bottom Line:

The High Joint’s new exclusive menu adds another dimension to their already brilliant line up of award winning burgers and should be more than enough motivation for you to get out to Motor City and try it yourself.
