Perry and Blackwelders

Was very interested to try this out as it was billed as an original and unique smokehouse experience, which is something that I can easily get excited about.

The ambiance was nice, the styling is very conceptual and on theme, but is in some ways at odds with the overall Madinat Jumeirah environment. On this visit it was quite empty, the outside seating is quite good and there were a few people out here…be warned sitting outside can have you infused with your own smokehouse flavor.

Onto the food, the wings were excellent, hands down the best part of the night. You are offered a range of different BBQ sauces including a Dubai BBQ to enhance your dishes, which is a nice touch. The main dishes were frankly dry. The 14 Hour smoked Beer can Chicken and the brisket, while quite smokey, but were bordering on the inedible until the BBQ sauces we applied, which was a great shame.

The slow cooking and smoking process is meant to enhance the dish and leaving the meat falling off the bone, tender and amazing, this was not the case on this occasion. Smoking should not be confused with drying. The sides we also a little bland, The cheese and mac – watery and flavorless, the Slaw was nice but nothing special, the green beans however were good, buttery and flavorful.

Overall, the food tasted nice, it’s just that it was overpriced for what was on offer, a highly stylized offering needs to be executed perfectly, if a premium is being charged and alas, this visit did not represent good value for money and except for Happy Hour pricing, the beverages are also supremely expensive.

Other reviews have said that the meats were juicily tender, so I don’t know if this was an off night. Best to try for yourself but I won’t be rushing back in hurry. Sorry gang.
